When I was invited by my friend's six year old daughter for her kindergarten graduation ceremony, I was touched. I remember how tears welled up in my eyes just hearing her talk on the phone ( she told her mom to dial my number and wanted to do the talking). Apparently she inquired with her teacher about the guest list beside her family and she chose me. These tender moments make one realize that life is worth living and; the fight to acheive all that good is after all, a fair one! I wrote this poem for her. The words that I underlined are the ones that she will have to look up for "meanings"!
Growing up is a process, continuous
There is no period such as recess
It is some thing that we all do
Along the way come changes few
Growing up is work but also a lot of fun
For there is so much to learn under the sun
It is when one learns to enjoy the work
And at times “to play and have fun” one shirks
Growing up is, becoming more responsible
To learn how to be caring in principle
It helps us all learn about respect and trust
It is all very tiring, however all this is a must
Today you graduated climbing few steps
When you reach the top of all the steps
Achieving your goals after doing your best
You will find that you have no time to rest
As growing up is a process, continuous
There is no period such as recess
A child can impart wisdom at times
As it happens in an adult forever a “child” resides
